Frequently Asked Questions about Glynda’s Gift

What is Glynda’s Gift?

Glynda’s Gift is a grant offered to single parents, given in memory of my mother, Glynda Sears.  She raised five sons as a single mother and devoted her life as an educator to countless other young men and women.  We grew up poor, often having to rely on extended family in financial emergencies. For us, an extra $1000 would have been life-changing.  So, with the meager funds she left in her passing - along with contributions by others - I am establishing a way to make a difference for single parents and their children.

Who is eligible to receive Glynda’s Gift?

Any single parent with primary custody of their children who resides within the La Canada USD or Pasadena USD attendance zones or attends schools within these zones.

What is the gift for?

The gift of $1000 is meant to be used in whatever way the parent considers to make the maximum impact for their family.  Growing up, a gift like this could have meant a spring break vacation, car repairs, or new school clothes and supplies. In order to receive the gift, recipients must agree to provide documentation of how the gift was used (primarily through a face-to-face dialogue with one of our leaders and/or pictures of their experiences).

How can I nominate someone for Glynda’s Gift?

Simply follow this link to our online form:

Since we consider relational connections vital to our human experience, we want all those who nominate others to be willing to have that disclosed to any recipient.  Therefore, we are unable to accept self-nominations.

We have partnered with La Cañada Congregational Church to establish our fund, which means that your contributions are tax-deductible.  You may give online via Paypal (  or mail a check (with “Glynda’s Gift” in the memo line) to
